Budget airlines add 37% in extras but still 33% cheaper

A survey of European flight companies surveying 5,000 fares for 118 routes has found some very interesting results.

Firstly that cheap ticket airlines average final ticket prices of 37% higher than the original prices quoted. This compares to 4% from standard airlines.

Secondly the same low cost flight companies give travelers an average saving of 33% over standard ones. This saving rises to 39% for tickets booked over nine weeks ahead of time.

The full service air travel companies of Lufthana and British Airways were seen to offer the most expensive tickets, but in flight service is amongst the highest as well.

The cheapest tickets can be bought in Germany for low cost flights within Europe who show an average ticket price 39% below the average price of traditional airlines. Spain has the lowest savings of 24%.

These ‘hidden extra’ we found to be the highest in Italy and the UK, lowest in Germany and Spain. All this said it is still far cheaper to book using the budget companies as saving still average out at 33% over standard airlines.

The report was commissioned by Kelkoo and carried out by the flight analysts RDC Aviation.

In conclusion the report said that research is the key to finding the best ticket prices. Look around all the budget companies and find out exactly how much the extras come to for a proper comparison to other carriers.
